Reuse and Recycle – Life After the Lyric!

Whilst we can no longer tread the boards, watch a show or catch up with friends in our old building, did you know that the original Lyric Theatre lives on!

The principles of sustainable demolition were used when the original Lyric Theatre was demolished in May 2008. So rubble, timber, scrap metal and plastic left over when the building came down, were recycled in depots all over Northern Ireland to be reused locally and abroad.

- Concrete and brick rubble was screened and crushed and passed on to be used on other construction sites.
- Timber was recycled on site and processed to be used for pallet and chipboard manufacture.
- Scrap metal was sent to a local metal recycler, and
- Plastics were segregated on and off site and either baled or compacted and exported for use abroad.

It’s great to know that the old building has been put to good use……..another example of Living Lyric!
