Belfast’s skyline is changing!

If you haven’t passed along Ridgeway Street in the last few months you will be forgiven for your surprise when you consider the photograph below. Where, up until recently, there was a vacant site and the towering skeletons of the Gilbert Ash cranes, there now stands the imposing structure of the stage of our new Theatre.

Standing on the street looking south you can’t help but be impressed by the scale of the structure. The height is necessary to accommodate the state of the art flying equipment used to lift scenery and equipment in and out from the stage – an essential feature of new theatres but sadly lacking in our old one.

The true scale of the building is revealed at the top of the scaffold from where you can see out over the rooftops of the Stranmillis Road to Cavehill in the distance.

It is comforting to know that in less than two years, residents from the other side of Belfast will similarly be able to look down on the City and see the welcoming lights of the new Lyric Theatre.
