Cause of black vaginal discharge

Implantation bleeding

womb This may be a cause of the black discharge if it is continuous and one’s menstrual period is late. The discharge may occur from six to around twelve days after the implantation has occurred. The primary cause of the discharge is because the blood vessels of the uterine lining may rupture during the implantation process making the blood old hence it comes out as black discharge. However, it is also important to note that the color of the discharge may vary depending on how old the blood from the uterus is.

Retained period

Menstrual periods should occur once a month after the completion of a cycle which is normally twenty-eight to thirty-five days. If they occur and some blood is left in the uterus, to be shed later, it can lead to change in color of the vaginal discharge to black or dark brown.

Foreign object in the vagina

Some of the foreign objects include a piece of a broken condom, part of a tampon among others. Under this instance, the discharge will be accompanied by unpleasant odor and vaginal discomfort. This may require one to make a gynecological appointment as soon as possible before the symptoms aggravate.
